ALCOHOLISM
Although alcohol is illegal for people younger than the age of 21, here are some staggering finds: 54% of 8th grade children and up to 84% of 12th grade children report having consumed alcohol on a regular basis. The findings indicate that the prevelance of both drinking and getting drunk increase with age, no matter what age one starts.
It has been proven that adolescent alcohol use and its associated consequences, including heavy drinking and driving a motor vehicle after consumption, is ever increasing as you read this.
6 to 11% of elderly patients admitted to hospitals exhibit symptoms of alcoholism; 20% of elderly patients in psychiatric wards; 14% of elderly patients in emergency rooms; in acute-care hospitals rates of alcoholism related admissions for the elderly are similar to the same number of heart attack's. Drinking in nursing homes is as high as 49%. Late onset alcohol problems also occur in retirement communities, because drinking is a normal thing to do at social gatherings, they think.
Studies have proven that there is an association between alcohol consumption and violent or aggressive behavior. These statistics are staggering; up yo 86% of homicides are alcohol related; 37% of assaults are alcohol related; 57% of men and 27% of women involved in marital violence is alcohol related; 13% of child abuse are alcohol related and 42% of violent crimes are due to alcohol use.
Don't be a statistic!
